Welcome to Not As Ugly Island

Tuesday the Welders took a break-dinner and a movie...and a trip to Lowe's. Yes, I realize we probably have a problem. Wednesday we were rested (not really, we closed Lowe's down at 10:00...had to be let out since the doors were already locked) and ready to get back to it. Well, kind of. Mr. Welder decided the yard was top priority-or maybe he just wanted to hang out with the horrible mosquitoes. It was too dark to take a picture of Mr. Welder's progress, but here are a few shots of mine. I got the island sanded and distressed and ready for a good cleaning before the clear coat can be sprayed.
The bookshelf (without the shelves) at the end.
I used 220 grit sandpaper to go along the edges and do the distressing and used a really fine grit sponge box sandpaper deal (you know what I'm talking about, right?) to smooth out all of the surfaces. This really helped it not look so freshly painted and gave it a worn look.
Looking less like a chalkboard already.
