Hi! I am the Welding Wife, and over about a two year time period, my husband and I built a steel frame house. Each day that we were able to work at our house, we learned and gained so much...we learned more about building components (especially me-since I hardly knew a thing), more about each other, more about patience, more about hard work, and so much more. I started this blog to keep our friends up to date on our progress. And in case you were wondering, the Welding Wife does not know how to weld but I am a good purlin holder upper...something every welder needs :) The one time I did weld in Ag class, I was wearing sandals and burnt my toe.
The American dream is to own your own home. Even before Jason and I were married, we had this dream. We talked about it and the different options available. We looked at buying an old house, moving it, and remodeling. This idea still excites me, but we decided this was not feasible. At the time, Jason was a steel salesman so eventually we choose to build a steel frame house. We had a very basic plan, tons of pictures of things we liked, but mostly made it up as we went along. Sounds crazy, I know, but I could not get Jason to nail down an entire plan (the way I work!) The plan we did have was to do as much of the work as we could ourselves with help from friends and family and hire experts to do the things we couldn't or rather didn't want to figure out. This method (that also included lots of praying) actually worked out for us! Soon after moving in, the projects did not stop but dwindled, and that is when Weld House Homes was brought to life. The Weld House will always be a project dear to our hearts and with this blog we will continue to share house updates, other projects you might be interested in, memories being made in our home and wherever we go, and God only knows what else. We truly appreciate all of you who have supported us in the past and look forward to you being a part of our future journey.
The Weld House Name
Since there is a story behind "The Weld House", I thought I would share it. It is a short story. One night we were out working and welding on the house when Jason's dad called. They were in town and offered to bring us a pizza home for dinner (boy, do we have great parents!) He asked where we were and I told him at the house. He sat there for a minute and I realized he did not know which one and so I told him "the weld house." And that cleared it all up!
We have so much to be thankful and grateful. Most importantly, we thank God. We thank him for being with us during this endeavor-whether it be keeping us safe, giving us talents, providing nice weather, lending us patience, helping us not make as many mistakes, or being with us on shopping trips helping us find a good deal-we thank him and give him all glory and honor for all things good. We also thank our parents who support us in so many ways. Encouragement, hard labor, hot meals, & good company are much appreciated. Thank you to our loyal companion Daisy ,who would never miss a trip out to the weld house, and who has caught many mice and always keeps us entertained and brings a smile to our faces. We also thank all other family members and friends. We have had so many of you come help, visit, or offer advice, and we truly appreciate all of you.
