Walk in the Woods

Saturday was a day full of wood. To start, mom and I laid out some of the wide barn wood to wash for projects that are scheduled to happen soon. Since the wood swells a bit when it's wet, it is always better to wash ahead of time so it has time to shrink back to it's original size before installing. Then it was time to make room in the garage...
For a huge trailer load of freshly milled cedar. Mom and I really thought we could unload all this alone while the guys did something else productive. Just look at the smiles on our faces.
The pile was hardly getting smaller and the muscles were not getting any peppier. It wasn't long before dad and Jason came to the rescue. Whew! But we sure did want our picture by it like we did it all :) This is Red Cedar. Some of it was cut from trees that day. Now it needs to sit and dry for a while before being used. It will turn a darker brown color. Right now it is a nice air freshener. Too bad this blog is not scratch -n- sniff. Then the moment we've (well, at least mom and I) have been waiting for, planing of the A-frame wood! The top piece is after it's been planed. Looks great!
So after we knew planing was the next step, we set up our operations a little better. Jason, mom and I worked the planer after dad used a scraper to knock off the globs of paint, tar, and old caulk. We had a graduation party to attend, but left with a nice stack of wood waiting to be installed.
