Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Monday on our drive to the Weld House, God graced us with some beauty. I think this was the first time I've seen a rainbow disappear. It was there one minute, the sky darkened, and it was gone.
We pulled up to this. Not the ideal situation when you have marble installers due to arrive the next day. The truck has four wheel drive so we went for it around the driveway.
The storms caused a power outage so we looked around at what had been accomplished earlier that day. The Lazy Susan was installed. I can't wait to have all my spices where they are easy to reach and see...and to have time to actually use them!
And the holes were drilled for the hardware.
Since every project we could think of needed an electric saw or electric air compressor, we just took a break on the balcony and enjoyed the site. Oh, and we also snuck in some discussion on options of finishing the upstairs, game room walls. I know, we are addicted to talking about the Weld House!
It was a nice change of pace, talking, and watching Daisy play Crocodile Hunter.
On one side another rainbow appeared.
And on the other it was sun shining and raining. The rain falling between the trees was so pretty. You can kind of see it in the picture.
Buzz, buzz, the electricity kicked back on, so the fairy tale came to a halt and we got back to work. First, we completed the next step on the master bathroom vanities. I used a super fine grit (I think it was 320) sanding block. This thing really smooth and buffed leaving a pretty finish.
The instructions call for another coat of clear stain, so even though we liked how they looked, we followed directions. Jason blew off the dust with the air compressor.
And then I wiped everything down with a tack cloth. Another first experience.
Then it was time for the second (and final) clear coat. I am pretty sure the overly humid conditions were not ideal, and things did not look the greatest right away. But by the end of the night, after they had time to dry, we went to take a look. And man do they look so good. So smooth, not super shiny (which is why we picked a satin finish), and just the perfect look for us. It could not have turned out better if we actually knew exactly what we were doing! This is definitely the confidence we needed to take on the kitchen cabinets.
Jason sprayed foamed around the garage/kitchen door.
Then he worked on the threshold for the front door.
While I said bye, bye, baby blue and started painting the garage/kitchen door. As you might remember, the side of the door that faces inside was already an off-white color. I planned to sand it lightly and give it a fresh coat, but after I sanded and gave it a cleaning, I kind of liked the distressed look. I bet you're surprised. It's hard to justify painting over something you already like :)
